The light

Red and near infrared

630 and 850 nanometres, running together. 630 is where most of the visible-light literature sits, studied for healing and for collagen. 850 is invisible and travels deepest of the four. Whether any consumer mask delivers enough of either is the open question further down this page.

Everything above describes a field of study, not this device. Red, near infrared and blue are where that field concentrates. Amber is a feature of the product, and we would rather tell you that than pretend four is better than two.

It is $249 because there is no distributor. The masks above are paying for an Australian importer, retail shelf space and a launch campaign, and we ship from the factory to your door with nobody in between. That is the whole difference and we are not going to dress it up as engineering.

A LED count is a count, not a dose. Two of the masks above put more diodes on your face than we do, and one of them publishes six wavelengths against our four. We are not claiming to be a better device than every mask on this list, and some of them have spent years earning their reputation. We are claiming that the gap between what they cost and what they contain got very wide, and that nobody was serving the middle of this market. New Zealand orders are priced in Australian dollars and converted by your bank.

311 is the figure on the manufacturer’s own specification sheet, alongside “four-crystal chip” for the bead construction. We have not pulled one apart to count them, and we will say so until we have.

Three intensity levels on each, and a memory function that returns to where you left it. Most people settle on one within a week and stop thinking about it.

All four wavelengths are published below, in nanometres, exactly as the manufacturer states them. None of them is a channel mix dressed up as a wavelength.

Moulded eye shieldPart of the mask, not an accessory in the box

This is the question people actually ask about LED masks: what happens to my eyes. Here the shielding is moulded into the shell itself. Nothing to clip on, nothing to lose, nothing to remember. You can keep your eyes closed or open them and read, and the light stays out of them either way.

It is visible in the photographs below: a raised moulded piece seated on the diffuser panel, not a printed marking. Most masks in this category ship separate plastic goggles in the box and expect you to fit them each time. What it is not is a tested figure — see the missing IEC 62471 report further down. We point you at the shape of the object rather than at a reassurance we cannot back.

Rigid masks make you sit upright and hold still. This one folds to your face and stays put while you lie back, and at 270 grams you stop noticing it.

Power source and battery capacity are both specified by the manufacturer. Because it runs off its own battery, mains voltage is not a factor: it is the same device in a 230V country and a 110V one.

CE and RoHSDeclared, not yet in our hands

CE covers electromagnetic compatibility and RoHS restricts hazardous substances in the electronics. Neither says anything at all about light output, or about what this will do to your skin.

Both are listed on the manufacturer’s specification sheet. We have asked for the certificates themselves and we do not have them yet. When they arrive they go on this page in full. If they never arrive, this sentence stays exactly where it is.

What we are still missing

This is the section most shops in this category simply do not have. It is a list of the things we asked the manufacturer for and have not received.

The CE and RoHS certificates themselves. They are declared on the specification sheet and we have requested copies. Until a document is in our hands we will not show you a badge for it. An IEC 62471 photobiological safety report, the standard that actually concerns light on skin, and the one that would tell you something real about the eye shielding rather than something reassuring. Requested, not received. Irradiance in mW per square centimetre, measured at the skin. Requested, not received, and almost nobody in this category publishes it. Electrical safety testing of the charging circuit. Requested, not received.

Every one of those gaps is a real gap, and we would rather you read it here than discover it later. What we do have is the full specification sheet, and every figure on this page comes from it.

Four channels, four figures, and every one of them is a real wavelength. The 850 nanometre channel has no colour to show you, because the eye cannot see it: when it runs you will see very little, and that is expected rather than a fault. Several sellers in this category advertise seven or eight colours by counting channel mixes as separate wavelengths. We would rather have four we can name.

Is this a medical device?

No. It is a cosmetic skincare device. It is not registered with the Therapeutic Goods Administration and we make no medical or therapeutic claims about it. If you are treating a diagnosed skin condition, that is a conversation for your GP or dermatologist rather than a website.

What about my eyes?

This is the question people actually ask, so here is the honest version. The shielding either side of the nose bridge is a thick moulded part of the shell itself, not a pair of goggles you clip on and lose. You can keep your eyes closed, or open them and read through the opening, and the light stays out of them either way.

What we cannot give you is the measurement. The standard that would say something real about light and eyes is IEC 62471, we have asked the manufacturer for that report, and we do not have it. Until we do, we describe the shape of the object rather than making a safety claim about it.

Can I wear it if I have sensitive skin?

Most people can, but we are not in a position to advise on your individual skin. If you have a condition, are pregnant, or take medication that increases light sensitivity, check with your doctor before using any LED device. That applies to every mask on the market, not only this one.

Does it get hot?

It should not. The manufacturer specifies a working temperature at or below 50°C at the shell, and buyers of this model mention unprompted that it stays cool. That is a specification and a set of opinions rather than a measurement we took, and we would rather say so.

Why not just buy the twenty dollar one?

Honestly, the hardware is not a world apart. What differs is 311 emitters rather than a few dozen, four wavelengths published in nanometres rather than a colour wheel, eye shielding moulded into the shell, a rechargeable battery instead of a wall plug, a returns policy you can use, tracked delivery, and someone who answers email. If you want the cheapest mask that exists, buy that one. We are selling the one with a shop behind it.

Is it the same device sold under other names?

Yes, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. We did not design or manufacture this mask. We selected it, we publish everything its maker told us, we list what they have not told us, and we stand behind it in Australia with a return window and an email address that a person reads. That is what you are paying us for. If you would rather buy it directly from overseas without any of that, you can, and we would not blame you.

Where do you ship?

Australia and New Zealand. Nowhere else, for now. Prices are in Australian dollars for both, so a New Zealand order is converted by your bank at the rate of the day rather than by us at a rate we chose.

How long does delivery take?

Your order leaves within three business days. The carrier quotes seven to twelve days in transit to an Australian address, and we are printing their figure rather than improving it. Some parcels take longer, and a New Zealand address usually sits at the slower end. If yours is one of them we will tell you before you have to ask.

It is tracked the whole way. Tracking on parcels arriving from overseas goes quiet for a few days in the middle, which is normal rather than lost. Your thirty days start the day it arrives, not the day you order.

Will I be charged customs or duty?

You should not be. In Australia, goods valued at A$1,000 or less generally enter without customs duty or an import processing charge, and that covers this product. In New Zealand, Customs does not collect at the border when the amount owing is below NZ$60, and an order this size sits under that.

But the commitment does not depend on us being right about any of that. If anything is ever charged to you on arrival, send us the receipt and we refund it the same week. The price on this page is the price you pay.

Does it need a special plug?

No. It runs off its own 3000mAh battery and charges over USB, so there is nothing to match to an Australian or New Zealand wall socket and no adaptor to find. Any USB charger you already own will do it.

How long until I see something?

Skin moves slowly and results vary between people. Treat it as a habit rather than a fix, give it a few weeks of consistent use, and judge it on your own face rather than on a before and after photo from a stranger.

Will it fit my face?

It is one size, in soft silicone, with adjustable side straps, and it weighs 270 grams. The shell flexes to the contours of the face rather than sitting rigid on it, which is why a single size works across most adult faces. If it genuinely does not sit right on yours, that is what the thirty days are for.

How do I clean it?

Wipe the inner surface with a soft damp cloth after each session and let it dry before putting it away. Do not submerge it and do not put it near a heat source. It is an electrical device with silicone over it, not a silicone object with a plug.

What if it stops working after a few months?

Australian Consumer Law guarantees, and the Consumer Guarantees Act in New Zealand, apply regardless of any warranty period a seller offers, and they cover goods that fail earlier than a reasonable person would expect. Write to us with your order number. We are a small operation and we would rather sort it out than have you tell people we did not.

What if it arrives faulty?

Email us with your order number and a photo. We replace it or refund it. You do not need to argue the point with us.
